    Collage Seminar

On the 25th January collage artists from Edinburgh, Dumfries and Galloway and Birmingham came together for the Collage Seminar. MERZ artist in residence Ric Kassini Kadour introduced his rationale for collage being a 21st century medium and Rhed Fawell of the Edinburgh Collage Collective ran a workshop on book-binding and collage. Through the magazine Kolaj and – in paricular Instagram – collage has formed an international community. We hope the MERZ Collage Seminar will contribute to linking local artists internationally. Other events are planned during Ric’s residency include the inaugural exhibition of collages gathered world-wide for Schwitters’ Army. After showing at MERZ from the 16th February the collection become part of the MERZ Basement Archive, joining work by former artists in residence Cat Robertson and Ally Wallace and the artists still to take up residency under the scheme supported by Creative Scotland and the National Lottery. Plans are afoot to hold a four day Sanquhar Collage Lab in September 2020 to be based around work with the Tolbooth Museum.
