MERZ RESIDENCIES : New Accommodation for 2022

During the pandemic MERZ has been extending its residency accommodation adding extra self-contained residencies, museum and studio spaces to the original Bothy and MERZ Gallery.

The Tadpole residency building features a wood-burning stove, a king-size loft bed and a large shower in its en suite: ideal for a couple as well as single. Tadpole has a small flexible kitchen area with an adjacent kitchen housing a washing machine and fridge. Ideally located for work alongside ZIPStudio artist’s exhibitions can be held at MERZ or at the adjoining Museum of Model Art. Documentary filming during residencies is offered courtesy of Summerhall TV.

Snug offers smaller self-contained accommodation in the MERZ staff flat, with its loft bed, en suite and kitchen. As a smaller space Snug is ideal for short residencies and visitors but – as the name implies – it is ‘very cosy’.

For Summer months MERZ has two ‘art-houses‘, small caravans modelled around the work of Kurt Schwitters and Hannah Höch which feature in the Schwitters-Höch film being made by Summerhall TV. Here solar panels provide lighting with USB recharging for phones and laptops while the art-houses have a kitchen, toilet and shower in adjoining outbuildings. They provide an ideal off-grid short-stay in the MERZ sculpture green.

No 5 is a traditional three bedroom Sanquhar terraced house located opposite the Museum of Model Art in St Mary’s St. Currently fitted out with two bedrooms (double and single) and upstairs lounge, the living area downstairs has been converted to provide a kitchen with studio. No 5 is ideal for an artist with family or a small group seeking to share facilities or to combine work.

All the MERZ residency buildings have WiFi and multi channel TV.
